68 390 Block ID
« on: February 26, 2018, 10:56:59 AM »
Hey guys,

Fortunately,  I was able to save my original block to my car,  but when I bought it,  he included another block in case mine couldn't be saved.  It's a 390, with a VIN stamped on the back as 8R155375.  Anyway to tell if that was from a Mustang, Fairlane,  Galaxy, etc?

I'm dropping it off at the machine shop to get baked, cleaned up,  and scanned to make sure it's a good block.   I took pics but forgot to check the date code by the oil filter and will do that later this week.   Obviously, it's for a 1968 something.  Maybe it's close to someone's car here!

Cheers
Dave

I'd disagree that it was from a Mustang.  Any Ford product using a 390 could have that partial VIN, right?  Or did only Mustangs have the 155xxx number?

Your correct would have been from a Ford product but not a Mercury or Lincoln. Would not be a Bronco or a Falcon/Econoline due to engine size and sequential first number

Would have to consider all brands and models that were built at San Jose that specific year.

Not certain what Ford truck sequential first number was in 1968

I believe Fairlanes and Torino's were also on the San Jose line during that time frame.
