Topic: '65 six-cylinder axle

I posted a question on the MCA website in the Judges' Tent section and I guess nobody wants to answer it.
The 2018 Judging Rules completely omitted the '65 six cylinder rear axle (7-3/4 w/8-bolt cover) and third member. I just want to know if there are any changes before I paint and assemble mine. I'm "assuming" the cover and axle tubes are black, the third member is red oxide, and the cover bolts and flange are natural. I'm not sure about the washers. There is some mention of copper in the past.
Anybody here have the answer?

I think you are correct in your assumption.  I too would think the 6cyl axle would look identical to the 8cyl axle.

The 6 cylinder rear axle is an "integral carrier" design and does not have a removable 3rd member like the 8" and 9". So I presume it is highly unlikely that the rear axle has a painted red oxide 3rd member.

i believe if you reread the rules, section L you will find that the 6 cyl. axle is referenced. i do agree that it needs a bit more detail in that area.

The rules and MCA Judging sheet are being corrected to address this. What was removed from the third member section is being inserted back in and the rear end section is being changed to clarify that the center section of the 6 cylinder integral carrier may be semi-gloss black or red oxide. I want to thank everyone that provide input to get this corrected.

If that rear end ever fails it won't be for lack of inspection!

this is what my 66 San Jose 6 cyl. diff looks like after cleaning off the dealer undercoating and grime. they did have quite a few markings.

Thanks for posting. I recalled someone had cleaned and posted pictures of a nice original example. Glad you responded
