Attached is a pic of the Door Sills/Scuff Plates off my 1964.5 Convertible which I cleaned up. I will be adding Pics by my own replies to this Post. The platform only allows me to add one at a time.

I looked through the threads and have some questions.

First, there is discussion about early 1965 production having square edges while the later round edges. I am not clear what that difference is. Can someone clue me in?

Are my Door Sills Correct? If so, are they suitable for show – assume Driven Class.

Are they restorable? If restorable, how and where? I noticed chatter about anodized for non-anodized aluminum but I am not sure of the importance. When I applied a dab of aluminum polish, it did not turn black like its supposed to. I saw two places in the threads: ConCours Trim in F. Worth TX (a bit far for me – I am in Maryland); Butch’s Trim – not sure where that is at.

All comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks Roger

Using the search feature above - Using just "Sill plates" I found the following

Of course when and where they were used depends on when your car was built and where - neither was included in your post ;)

I reviewed the posts you listed including the post below. But, what do the rounded corners look like? That is what I did not see.

Attached is a Pic from an after market Door Sill. Are they rounded?

PREVIOUS POST:

Many of the items people thing of as 64 1/2 details were really cover allot more months than just that period. One for wxample is the ealry style sill plates.

At San Jose they were used into December production. ;)

Just as many running changes or more in the 67 production year but they were dealing with more engine sizes and Thermactor on some. OF 65 they were just working the bugs out on a new model of car - lots of changes was typical.

Here is an example of the early squared corner sill plates [PIC WOULD NOT COPY AND PAST]

Thanks Roger

I sent a pair to a place called Butch's Trim in Wisconsin.  Did a nice job.

Only extremely light corrosion/spots are going to buff out.

I will contact them. Overall, the sills look pretty good to me. And they appear in all respects to be the original sills (if I understand square vs round correctly). However, if they are not correct, then I  don't think I want to invest in a restoration. Hence my questions.

Thanks.

Ok - understood and in response to that I expanded the following thread to show the differences and another related details

Convertibel ones were a bit more difficult to find close up since it seems that lots are pictures are just taken (since the tops are often down) without opening the doors. And since the rounded version were used on millions of Mustangs not many pictures are taken.

Thanks. That clarifies the difference. I did see there are differences with convertibles as well but I'm not too sure what that is. But that wasn't the problem. From what I've read the problem is getting square reproductions. There are plenty of rounded repros that are fitted for coupe, fastback, convert etc.

Any views on just using mine as-is vs getting them restored?
Thanks Roger

The pics above are of correct square corner sill plates.  They were used for all of 64.5 generator cars and into regular 65 production.
