Hi All,

I came across an interesting situation with the engine date code on a 67 Mustang Fastback S-code 390 GT and wanted to get some expert opinions.

The car was built at Dearborn (7R02F). Engine was correct for the era - stamped "C6ME-" (strangely the 6015-A or E was missing off the end)

The schedule build date for the car was 15 Mar 67
The actual build date per Marti Report was 22 Mar 67 (7 days behind schedule)

The engine cast date was 7C17 which comes out to 17 Mar 67.
This gives 6 days between engine casting and vehicle build. Is this even possible? Is there any chance this engine is original to the vehicle? I understand the DIF was very close to the Dearborn assembly plant, but 6 days seems extremely short. Unfortunately we were unable to find an assembly date stamped on the engine.

Has anyone seen this before or come across a similar situation with their engine and build dates?

For a Dearborn car I've seen similar spreads

For example

7F02S  completed 20A with an engine assembly date of 7A11
7R01C147xxx completed 30L with an engine casting date of 6L23 assembly date of 6L25

have examples with wider ranges between the dates but these two support a very tight cast to completed car build possibility. Could look at other years but wanted to get as close as I could to your specific car

Hope this helps

Thanks Jeff. I really appreciate the feedback.

It certainly seems possible considering FORD's assembly line process, and the proximity of the engine foundry to assembly plant at the Dearborn facility.

I have seen 9 - 12 days between casting and final build a few times, however never 6 days so it does seem strange.

If anyone has seen this before I would love to hear about it.
