Trunk filler board cleaning?
« on: August 08, 2017, 09:42:19 AM »
I just picked up a nice original trunk filler board. First of all, what a difference in quality from the aftermarket pieces! This original feels twice as thick.

My question is how to clean such an item? It does have staining on it but is by no means rotted or damaged. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to clean up or restore such a delicate piece?

You'd be better off using a stiff brush to knock off an dirt, then dye it with brown/tan paint to match.

Anything else will likely ruin it... steam or solvents.

Thanks Charles. I was thinking of a flat tan colored paint? I typically find these destroyed or falling apart in your hands so I definitely wanted to salvage this one the best I can.

Yes, maybe a satin though, not flat.
