Can someone refresh my memory on what the A represents for the 1966 Mustang with code 66 Black Pony Interior.
I have a local original owner Silver Coupe here and curious what extra appointment this is.

The 'A' designates a deviation from the base configuration.  In the case of a deluxe interior coupe, the quarter trim vinyl is most likely the difference.  Not sure what would have triggered the change or if it was possible to order it specifically.

Looking through my pictures and came up with a question for the forum.

Does anyone have an example or two of the third digit interior code on a 1966 built at a plant other than San Jose?


As a side note did find a couple of original examples where a car with the three digits interior code got the two (sewn together) piece coupe rear seat/quarter trim. Both were same color from about the same time. Must have been (possibly) a supply issues during that time period. Much like the San Jose fastback red head liner period we identified years ago

From the "Mustang Production Guide, v1". 6F08C152006 has code 26A listed (date 11L), 6F07A152918 has code 25A listed (no date), several others. Also 6T07K163665 has code 66A listed (date 03M), 6T07A172616 has code 66A listed (date 18M). Many more in January 66.

The original rear quarters for deluxe interior I have seen were plastic/fiberglass composite.  Front upper corners notched out for the stainless trim piece.

On a coupe? 

Have never seen that on a 64-66 (stopping there since that is the threads focus)  Love to see one that was not steel

Sorry Jeff, I think it was an old repro that I saw.  Confirmed with my friend Lennie who has probably recovered 100 of these that they were indeed steel.

Your comment above, "the San Jose fastback red head liner period we identified years ago " I'd like to hear more about. Did a search and didn't get any hits. I don't want to take this thread off topic either but our fastback still has the original red headliner in it. I've patched some holes over the years but it's never been touched otherwise.
