C6 Filter Torque Spec
« on: January 16, 2017, 07:34:18 PM »
So embarrassing.......I'm just trying to change the transmission filter in my C6 (1967), yet I cannot determine what the correct torque specs are for the "screws" and bolts that hold the filter to the valve body. I check my Ford shop manual and various other sources to no avail.
There are nine (9) smaller dia bolts (5/16" hex head) and two larger dia bolts that hold the filter to the valve body. I assume the torque spec must be different for the two different sized fasteners. Help?

I found the attached image on the web (source unknown) and I marked it up to convey my question. I could believe 40-55 inch-lbs for the smaller bolts, but I'm not sure if 80-120 inch-lbs is correct for the larger two. Help?

Does anyone know if the two larger diameter bolts pass through the valve body and into the case? -OR- do the two larger bolts thread into the valve body itself? The answer to that question could help me understand what the torque spec is for all of the machine screws and bolts.
