1966 Convertible 25,000 actual miles all original
« on: November 07, 2016, 03:58:45 AM »
Cheers, Newbie to this forum.
I have a 1966 convertible UNRESTORED,  with 25,000 actual miles. I am the second owner of this car. The car was a snowbird car from Florida. Most all of the factory options, A/C, Pony interior, full console, "A" code engine, wire spoke wheel covers with spinners, black power top (original), rally Pac, Silver blue paint (1 repaint), factory am radio with 8 track player, (still works, with factory door speakers). No rust ever, interior excellent,  all original, matching numbers, original body panels, never restored. Body- 76B, Color-Y silver blue, Trim 62 Blue with luxury, Date 19L Nov. 1965, DSO 33 Detroit, Axel 1, Trans -6. Runs, drives, stops great. No belt on AC compressor, so not sure if compressor is froze up. Paint is a little thin.
I've looked on NADA classic cars and they say $51,000.00
Just wondering what you professionals think this car is worth today?
I have not seen a complete 100% original convertible with this low actual mileage and factory options sell on line for many years. I'm planning to take it to the MCA Grand National show in Kansas City in August, and enter in unrestored category.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance.
Craig

Welcome to the forum.
I believe you will find a lot of help here.
As far as entering a completely repainted car in unrestored I believe you will be disappointed.
Major points are deducted for pieces of the car being repainted.
Your best bet will be to discuss this with the classification people for the MCA.
They will guide you to the class in the show that is best for your situation.
Also, read the rules for unrestored on the MCA website at mustang.org for a better view of what unrestored requires. :)

If you've taken those pics with your phone, you can edit them and rotate before uploading.

Sorry about the photos. I have tried everything to get them right side up........software problem? These were not taken on phone, and display correctly on my PC.
I will gladly post more photos here if they will display properly. Tried the "inset photo option " and couldn't get that to work also?
I was just curious on a ballpark figure of an unrestored 25,000 mile car would be worth today?

Mileage alone is not an indicator of value.  Overall condition is more important.  Some wear should be expected on an Unrestored car, but if there are issues with the paint/chrome, etc..., then this will detract.  Also, original documentation is important with a low mile car... window sticker, original owner's manual, owner card, invoice and owner/title history.

Repaint is a big hit on value for Unrestored.

There's no way to give a reliable value by looking at just pictures.  Are you trying to price the car for sale?

Thanks Caspian65,
There are no issues with the chrome, paint, body panels, hood, door gaps, etc. I will contact the original owner of the car about the window sticker, owner card, invoice. I have not searched for the build sheet.  I have the owners manual, and title/owners history. I am registered as the 2nd owner of the car. Upon personal inspection of the car you would be able to confirm that it is what I represent.  I also have a 65 coupe (the sister car, same color, options) with 32,000 miles unrestored. I also have a 50 Mercury coupe, dark green, with 11,000 miles, and a 49 Plymouth, black with 16,000 miles. Both all original with original tires on them, both 2 owner cars. My father liked the all original cars, rather than restored.
Yes I am looking for prices to sell the cars.
Thanks in advance

Fixed your pics, they were rotated 180 degrees.  This can be corrected on your phone before uploading.

The Detroit DSO might scare some folks as that would be associated with rust belt cars.  A lot of those cars came with thick undercoat that dealers applied, or even ziebart where holes are drilled and frame rails/rockers treated.  The tell-tale sign of ziebart are rubber/plastic plugs in the door jambs and other areas of the car.  Some undercarriage pics could quickly determine if there may be hidden rust issues.  The repaint will be questioned... why was the repaint needed?  Accident or some other damage?  Some folks will not even consider buying an Unrestored car that has been completely repainted as this is one of the key components of a car actually being 'Unrestored'.  Even with the repaint, details will be looked at, is there over-spray on hardware, how well was the car prepared for repaint.  Does it match the original color correctly?  Metallic paints are notorious for matching issues.

Just pointing out some items that will affect the value.  As mentioned, miles alone are not an indicator of value.  Price guides are also widely inaccurate when it comes to low mileage Unrestored examples.  It's not the same as comparing to a newer car less than 5 years old.

Thanks Charles for rotating the pics. The car even though it has a Detroit DSO spent 99% of its life in Florida. It was his winter house car. There is no thick undercoating, ziebart plugs, or hidden rust issues. As soon as I can, I will get it up on a lift and post detailed undercarriage photos. I do not know why the car was repainted, I will ask the original owner. From what I can see there has never been any accident damage, no overspray,  and this is also what the original owner has confirmed also.
Thank you again for your expert help.
