65 Hardtop 200 SIX
« on: November 10, 2016, 08:41:45 AM »
Hi guys,

I want to share with you what it looks very extrange to me.

There's a car for sale in Spain mainland, it is a Hardtop 200 Inline 6 car but has the VIN F5F09C719106A (see attached pic), which is rare to me to see those letters Fand A in the beginning and at the end (?) and most important is because that VIN corresponds to a Fastback 2bbl car..!! Don't know what happened there.?
So why a Hardtop 200cid car has the VIN of a 289 C code car..? Very strange.!!
Have spoken with the seller and they say that same number is casted on the apron, strange, uh.?
There's no data plate in the door, so no way to compare, but I have told them to check for the other apron's VIN and see if they match. I don't think this is a mistake made in the line of production, looks another thing to me, and doesn't smells good.! The matter is this car has passed Customs is Spain with no issues.! They have said to keep me informed on what they find on the other apron, let's see...

I see some issues on this car like the 5 instrument gauge cluster and maybe door panels are not correct. Also there are no bumper guards, etc.. but they sell it to restore, so until here, OK..

It's most likely either a typo in the paperwork or something suspicious going on with the car.

Definitely lots of changes there.  It has a 66 grille, but 65 style pony bars.  The dash pad is 66 style and the cluster is correct for a 66 standard interior, but someone apparently added pony seats and door panels.  It's possible it may have been a 66 hardtop which was involved in a serious accident and was repaired with a 65 front clip.

It can be whatever since the VIN corresponds to a Fastback V8 and the car is a Hardtop I6, not looking like a typo in the paperwork, more like a suspicious matter here.! Maybe the base came from a Fastback and the body from a Hardtop, but how about the engine.? FrankenStang..? That car is a real mistery..!
