Not sure how much this will help but here is a pic of the fittings that were on my 12/67 built 68 j code Cougar - 4 spd, ac, ps, pb (front disc) with smog. Also trying to determine if these fittings are smog specific (have only found diagram of the upper brass fitting in the assy manuals). The vacuum hose from the metal tube to the brake booster (piece of fuel line when I got the car) I think should be 2ply reinforced vacuum line but I don't have specs.

Yes the fitting is very different from a year or so earlier

Jeff, in your experience where did the vacuum for the transmission get connected to if not the carb spacer ?

Jeff, in your experience where did the vacuum for the transmission get connected to if not the carb spacer ?

On the few 390 67 AC cars I've owned, without other vacuum options they were attached to the rear vacuum block. Have pictures of one Dearborn built car with Thermactor and no AC where the source for the transmission is the spacer.

Transmission vacuum line at the phenolic spacer under the carb.

Jeff, since we are looking at 390 intake vacuum connections do you have anything on how tilt column  lines were run from the can under the battery tray to the intake and the vacuum connection for the a/c vacuum can to the intake manifold. Did the a/c vacuum line have a check valve in it ? was there a check valve for the tilt column ?

Not allot of pictures showing anything clearly - either engine and stuff in the way or the car is disassembled and hoses are moved/gone. You can make out that (from the battery box area) they were held to the front frame rail with the wiring until the front surface of the shock tower then you can't make the route after that. They are not visible higher up (above the exhaust manifold) going backward to the firewall. And you can;t see them above or equal to the rear vacuum can.

and the vacuum connection for the a/c vacuum can to the intake manifold.

Up over the heater hose control valve then to the back of the intake manifold and the vacuum connection.fitting.

Did the a/c vacuum line have a check valve in it ? was there a check valve for the tilt column ?

Yes found one  on many examples approx 1/3rd the way from the vacuum can to the intake attachment point. They were single port - one side off set from being positioned in the center of the valve like the dual point (on one side) location but with only one connection on that end of the valve  Don't know if they were plated and dyed like the dual port versions used later
