1970 Trap Door Prop Arm Bracket Hardware?
« on: February 10, 2023, 08:45:44 AM »
NOTE: This initial post was separated from another thread focusing on the finish of the prop rod arm finish - https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=14396.0

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The screw fasteners may be different to what the AMK supplies as a replacement for  p/n 55593-S2, and AMK?s includes a star locking washer. It looks like some (if not all) are a flange head screw; a few being what appears to be P&O and the majority zinc dichromate finish. There are more photos of this bracket and fasteners on a similar 69 thread.

Can we confirm if this is a difference between plants?

Yes we can look into the attaching hardware that attached these brackets to the passenger side body in the trunk and compare finishes by plant and production period while we are doing that. On my part I'll need a few hours to go through hundreds or thousands of pictures. Will see what I can find and what others have to offer.  As always we need when and where the example was built and focusing  on unrestored examples. Thanks

Do not have as many 70 examples as I would hope but then again being an even year Mustang production numbers were down as usual.

What I did find on the few NJ and San Jose examples is a completely different hardware arrangement which I believe would require a different nut insert in the body bracket that the catch bolted to.

Pictures, by plant, to follow

Here is what I could find in my files at the moment that captured the style and type of hardware used to attach the catch to the body.

NJ/Metuchen examples

0T02x13932x

0T02x15214x  Little bit of paint overspray from a sloppy repaint ::)

Wish I had more

San Jose/Milpitas example Only found one  :(

Appears to be the same type and style of attaching hardware as used at NJ in 70

Examples from 70 Dearborn shown below to help illustrate the details we're focusing on here. In these examples we have one example with P&O  finish while the other is zinc dichromate

This is what I have at this point including the one Hopey posted below of the Oct 69 built example All shown in sequential order

0F11918x Projected build Oct 69 Can't clearly see the finish but the bolt finish appears to be different than the bracket suggesting IMHO that they are not P & O

0F02G1xxxxx Oct 27th 1969 build date

Mid Nov 69 build date

0F14121x Projected build Dec 69

0F14274x  Projected build Dec 69

0F15166x Projected build Jan 70

0F16973x Real build date of  March 16th 1970

Appears that zinc dicromate was used early  and in the later months with P & O for the majority of the mid month builds at this time for Dearborn built sportroofs with the fold down option
