69 Boss 302 -ID Wheels
« on: December 25, 2016, 06:50:12 AM »
Keen to learn a bit about early 1969 Boss magnum wheels.
I have acquired a set 15 x 8” with a 1 7/8” centre hole for the cap.
Is this correct for the early Ford rims or could they be possibly MOPAR?
Where would I find markings or stampings?

all ford boss magnums are 15x7" & have ford oval stamped on inside outer lip except for 69boss 429 ( the first boss magnums) of which were sourced directly from magnum 500 co.&dont  have a ford stamp id.

Motor Wheel Co. in Lansing Mi. was the manufacture of the Magnum 500 wheels.   ;)

Thanks for the answers so far.
I removed the tires and although I did not find the Ford logo I now know they are 7”
Can anyone decode the stamping shown in the picture?
Also is there anything more that can be added regarding the 1 and 7/8 of an inch centre cap hole as I have read the latter are 2 1/8”
Cheers Kim

There should be a Ford logo, but not on the inside where you are looking.  They are on the outside back of the wheel, like this picture here and also where you find the date code.  That's what you see when the tires are mounted on the car.

I have found the Ford logo on the back of these rims   (Thanks Marcus)   so now presume the rims to be genuine Ford.
Now this would answer the fact that there is identification inside the rim as my photo indicates.
Can anyone tell me if the centre hole is correct for a 69/70 rim?
Did they run caps or did the grease cap poke through the hole?
To be precise they measure just under 49mm or a bit under 1-31/32”.
I will post some more photos of the other rims tomorrow.
Also any more info is greatly appreciated.

The size you have there...about 2 inches is the correct size for those wheels for the 1969 and in to 1970 wheels.

Thanks Marcus
I think this is the cap that would be correct for the early Boss Magnums.

Here are a few photos of one of my rims.
Note these photos are of the same rim inside and outside also note the black dated marking.
