1969 and 1970 Lower Door Seals

Put together a new article on a common detailing item for the 69 and 70 Mustangs - the lower door seals.  Something you see missing on alot of cars today when they are restored.  Happy reading.

Thanks for producing the article and sharing it. Found it interesting that you came to the conclusion that this was a feature designed for the full (1969) rather than a running change. Seems to be allot of cars out there were the stripes were not installed nor holes drilled

Yep, I agree Jeff.  I think what I am trying to say here (and maybe it didnt come across right) is that these seals were designed to be on certain cars....and if you have a car that has the holes that show signs of the screws being installed then you are missing the seal.  I have seen several cars now where we look at them and clearly you can see the seal was installed at one point. 

However, if the door has no holes on the bottom I would not add the seal to the car. 

I can play around with the wording if that point is confusing.

i have seen a number of 69 Shelby's that had them and others that didn't and it all looked factory. It didn't seem to be a clear cut early late issue ether. It is puzzling given the Shelby's are basically the same. I understand a new and improved superior reproduction is ready to be released on the order of the same quality as a genuine. I hope it is as has been promised.

Yes, the reproduction that Chris has made is exact.  Always nice to see someone do a quality product.  I put his next to the original NOS ones I have and they are identical.  And since the originals dont have any engineering numbers or Ford stampings you cant tell the difference.

Agreed - the statement, as you currently have it I think, would lead many to add the

The lack might lead an owner to check to see if the door had been replaced with a repo door or possibly (not sure if NOS doors had the holes predrilled but don't think so) a replacement of a different kind.

 " The seal was supposed to be installed on all cars with the exception of those cars with rocker panel mouldings where it was not installed.  It seems Ford was worried the seal would catch on the rock-er moulding area so left them off on those cars equipped with the mouldings.  However all other cars should have had them

My R code coupe didn't have them.  I have parted a lot out the didn't and some that did.  Also at some point they pre stamped small holes to make it easy to install.  Marcus did you get the sample I shipped you?  Nice job!

Actually the doors had pilot holes from what I can see and like Armond is saying.  I have one example here that has the pilot holes and never had any screws installed.  Hard to get a good picture of that so I did not include that information. 

Jeff,  I can work on an edit this weekend that maybe makes it less confusing. 

Armond....no sample here yet.  I think its too hot here now for people to deliver the mail anymore.
