A good friend has a 69 Mach ! (San Jose built in November 1968). She tells me that the car was purchased by her folks in the early 1970's and has been in the family ever since. When purchased, the round roof side ornaments had two distinguishing features, one was a tricolor stripe in the background (behind the galloping horse) as well as a partial shroud around the top edge of the circle that was part of the chrome frame. Unfortunately those emblems were stolen back in the day and were replaced by the common all black background emblems that are still available in reproduction (NPD part # 517A20-1A). I have never seen these unusual emblems and have not found any reference to them on google. Anyone ever see these unusual emblems? Were they RPO Ford parts or aftermarket? Does anyone have a photo they can post here? Thanks in advance for any insight.
I was also going to ask about an ink stamp inside the trunk lid with the name "Henry" but I see from Jeff Speegle's Youtube video with Don Rush that Henry was a paint inspector on the SJ line back in the day. The curiosity about that stamp comes from the fact that my friend's dad who was a Ford engineer for 38 years is also named Henry !!
