Topic: 1967 AM radio knob "sleeve"? C7AA-18AS45-A

According to the osborne electrical assembly manual, the AM radio for use with console should have some sort of "sleeve" (that's what the manual calls it) on one of the two shafts. Part number C7AA-18AS45-A.

Can anyone shed some light on what this sleeve looks like? I have my original AM radio (7TPZ) but I don't have the "sleeve" pictured in the assembly manual and I have no clue what I am looking for. Plastic? Metal? Help?

If someone can confirm that it is the same part on a 67 as well as a 68 I can take a pic of mine as its not in the car yet. In 68 it was a white plastic cone shaped piece behind the RH knob.

The electrical assembly manual shows it as a conical piece on only the RH shaft. I'd love to see a picture if you have one. :-)

Thank you for posting the pic! :-) Any idea what purpose the plastic sleeve provides? I'm missing this part... man oh man is this going to be tough to find!

It will probably be tough to find it seperately but I would check ebay as I did see one for sale a few weeks ago. You could always look to see if a complete radio may have one. Radio may be in rough condition but you may only want to strip it for knobs and this cone piece. If my memory serves me I believe it has to do with fader? Odd since I don't believe an AM would have a fader.  But I may be wrong about that though. Its on the tuner knob. Anyways this is what you are looking for I believe. Again my unit is for a 68.

This item is used to hold the inner knob on AM and AM/FM (mono) radios because there is NO FADER on them.
8-Track units were stereo and did not use them. If you notice, it allows the knob to turn enough to "mock" a fader.(unless the index pin is broken, then it spins 360 degrees)
Call it a "fader-delete" shaft if you like.

Good to finally know the purpose of these.  I've been wondering for quite a while.  I thought it was designed to lock the inner knob in place, but wasn't sure.

I got some new knobs for my radio. I thought I knew how the right ones go back on but I can't for the life of me figure out how to install them.  I have the white plastic extension that is supposed to go in the outer ring closest to the radio I believe to keep it from turning.  Where does the plastic finger go? Does it go in the small hole in the upper left in the bezel opening or the open area in the lower right? And does that keep the inner ring from turning but allow the knob to turn freely to tune the radio?
