I only heard of the green tag on 70 71 housings & thinking only change was rear sway bar plate bolted on top of shock plate or 7071 had  different wheel cly.  & brake line bends & brake hose change.

Not from a Boss, but ran across this picture I have this morning and thought it would be interesting.  This is from 8F01T1822xx which was claimed to be a 1,000 mile car.  See the pics of the rear axle paper tag, or at least what looks like one.

One more, found online for sale a while back. 7T03T2225.  Don't recall reading about paper tags that far back.  I'm actually looking through cars for rear axle brake line details and ran across these tags - not looking for them specifically.  Another red one for a T code.

Had a copy of the 68 but had not seen the 67.

Have red ones on 9" and 8" examples back to 65 also.

Since this discussion has been expanded to 65 and 66, the red tags on the early year cars typically were found on cars with limited slip differentials while the white tags were used on single wheelers.
(this applies to v8 cars only as the six cylinder cars were never my focus).   Mike Murray has (or did have) a red tag on one of his cars that was still readable a few years ago when I examined it.  The date plate verified that the car had a limited slip differential.  Maybe Mike will see this post and verify with an image.

Two of Mike's cars - A code with the white label and C code with the red label.  My collection of early cars is too small to draw any patterns from

IMHO its possible - challenge is that we don't have enough supporting evidence to know what all of them looked like or the other details. Example would include this discussion about appropriate color of paper and its meaning if any

67 Dearborn

8 inch?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Of course by mixing all these different years and application we're likely just going to muddy the research waters.

But here goes :)

67 6 cyl

68 6 cyl

68 6 cyl

*** And just when you think they are color coded by rearend size you get ............

68 390 S code

71 F code

9 inch.   I was just kidding about the color. (Brown=patina)  Can't really tell what the original color was.

I had a nice one my 67 SJ Sept 67 build 9 inch . It was white with just a little tan patina from age. It was for a 3.89. I have seen many others that were white under the patina also .I sent mine to Kevin M at his request so he could start duplicating them . He lost it . I got over it . He is still my friend although I was upset when it happened.

If I had to guess, I'd say the original color could have been white as I don't see any signs of color. Maybe if loosen the U bolts and slide the tag out I could tell where the tag was never exposed but not sure I'm that curious at this point.  ;)

That's a bummer about losing an original.
