68 Rear Bumper Bracket Detail Question

On a 68 New Jersey car would the rear bumper brackets have the inset nut for the bolt be finished in bright zinc or would they be entirely painted black? Photos that I've seen of service replacement parts show all black but I haven't been able to track down an assembly line piece.

A bit of a trivial question but I'm getting ready to clean a set up and want to know if I should have them plated before I paint them.

The originals I removed from my '67 San Jose Shelby had zinc inserts, but they weren't bright. The service replacements I have seen were painted as an assembly and were all black. It appears as if the stampings were painted before the insert was pressed in on the originals.

+1 . Typically zinc inserts in painted brackets . Several different methods to achieve the desired look ,some more involved and authentic looking then others . For instance, I plate the entire stripped bracket and go back and tape off the insert before painting .Others have different techniques.

Thanks Bob...that's precisely what I was going to do (plate the whole part)... I have some pieces that are going to the plater and wanted to make sure to get the bumper brackets in the lot if the zinc insert was the correct way to go.

Keep in mind the only portion that has to be perfectly cleaned off is the nut insert and immediate surrounding area. . It doesn't matter if there is hard to get at paint in metal creases etc. elsewhere because it is going to be painted.
