Tail light to body gasket
« on: March 07, 2016, 11:06:59 PM »
Can someone tell me if the tailight to body gasket is supposed to be black or white? I have seen each color between repros and nos. What would have been factory original for a July built, Dearborn 66'? Thanks

Tail light body to car would be white foam-type material.

Tail light body to car would be white foam-type material.
It's an "open foam" type (rough surface) as well. The bezel to body that also retained the lens, was a black closed cell (smooth surface). Supposedly, an open foam material would allow moisture to pass thru, closed would not.

White foam material is what I have found on my unrestored 66 coupe x Dearborn plant....

they seem to come available on ebay often enough.

Thanks guys, The white repro just looks very cheap to me. I have not seen NOS to compare in person but will keep my eyes open when they come up. It's small in a restoration, especially when no one can easily see this part, but I would like NOS when available.
