67 390 non GT air filter housing
« on: February 25, 2016, 04:01:17 PM »
I finally found a 67 390 non GT air filter housing for a closed emission California bound car in New Jersey of all places. I'm posting a few pics of some interesting things found. I'm curious if the missing stickers would indicate where the originals would have been placed. Also it seems to have a date code stamped. Would this housing have come with a chrome lid ? This one has a chrome lid. I thought it was in the pics but there is a nipple on the front of the housing.

Have seen/found these on GT and non-GT's California cars over the years - May be an early late issue but lets not go down that road in this thread. It is the same base as a 390 T bird built for California. A popular base that is used to make fake 428CJ air cleaners with. Was an easy part to pick up from local yard over the years. Think there are a half dozen out in storage

The lid on a Mustang application would have been chrome have found originals with the blue decal and the reddish orange style decal.

Yes the adhesive you found on the drivers side of the base is where the AUTOLITE air filter decal went originally

The decal on the snorkel is from a aftermarket NOX kit that was required for a time in the 80's

NOS base

Jeff, would there have been a sticker on the snorkel close to the housing, you can see a small unfaded paint spot.

Have seen (only on a couple) a very small rectangle white sticker with thick black boarder part number in that area. Looking through the pictures I found one on the NOS base. Not sure if this suggests that service parts got the sticker only. Don't know but its a possibility at this point

My low mileage 67 non GT 390 Dearborn car has evidence of both decals.  Guess the glue wasn't too good in 1967!  ;)
