Front disc brakes
« on: February 29, 2016, 03:07:54 AM »
Hi there,

How can I know if the from disc brakes on my 66 200 I6 coupe are from factory..?
I know these cars did not mount disc brakes from the factory, but drum brakes, but was possible as optional. Because she also has a full console and C4 trans. options, maybe the front disc brakes were also installed from factory.
Any help.? Thanks.

Is your vehicle 4 or 5 lugs?

I don't believe the disc option was available with a four lug pattern.
There were no offerings for 65-67 cars that weren't the Kelsey-Hays four piston calipers, which would be one clue. I also couldn't find an option for disc on a six cylinder vehicle.

Here is the company that makes a four lug disc brake kit. Perhaps this will identify what you have.

Disc brakes were not available on a six cylinder.  The 1966 price list shows "Disc brakes -- front -- 8 Cylinder" as the only disc brake option, at a price of $56.77.

Not an option nor available. In general disc brakes were a new thing not trusted nor wanted by many of the buyers of these cars in the mid 60's
