Topic: 69 San Jose - Spring/Shock Tower Cover Hardware

Was asked about what was used (washer style and head markings) for these bolts and nuts that hold the spring covers, in the front wheel wells, to the shock towers.

If you have a good example of an original car or one that your believe has the original hardware or if you can document someone else's please take part. Remember we need a VIN (last two digits are not necessary but doesn't hurt posing in most situations) and real build date if it's available

I cannot guarantee these are original, but they were on my Mach 1 in 1993. At that time I replaced them thinking they were not original because they didn't match my prior 69 mustang. I now believe they maybe original and reinstalled them. Glad I didn't toss them in trash. Mr. Speegle and Mr. Gaines your comments please. San Jose, 11G build date. 9R02H1895XX

Have seen those flat headed RBG used on Dearborn cars during specific periods but don't recall ever seeing them on a San Jose. Hopefully a look at later originals cars will tell us more.

BTW is your car restored and do you know if it was restored in the East?  Would not be the first time a San Jose car picked up some Dearborn details when that takes place. Happened allot of early Shelby's for example

Late car. Going through my pictures collecting ones to post I do see a pattern that does not include the bolts you have pictured. BTW are the fenders held to the body with the same types of bolts presently?   Just guessing Since that would confirm what I suggested above IMHO

Definitely seen many cars that used them on later 69 Dearborn Mustangs . I can not say on SJ plant as I have not had a occasion to study that plant for 69 model year.

Ok took a look through my pictures and came up with some more examples where the head markings were visible. All of the ones I found used the wavy or toothed washers so that appears not to be a difference during the year and plant.

Removed my earlier post with the three examples so that I could post the pictures in order by their VIN in this one. In some of the pictures I also included the fender bolt also. Often they matched but not all the time. Expect that we will visit fender bolt markings in another thread in the future

Looks like so far there were two suppliers and we can start to see when each was available and used during different periods of production.  Have one more section in my files to check for additional original examples

The first pictures with the actual bolts are an unrestored October68 built 69CJ,San Jose.9R02R107xxx  The pics with just the fender apron and no bolts is my car, September68 built 69CJ San Jose.  9R02R107xxx.  Another note.  My fender bolts were like the pic posted by BUZZ489.  Has anyone else have the fender style bolts that say "NAT"?

For others your referring to the fourth picture as those being found on 9R02R107xxx with the sunken RBW style

Another note.  My fender bolts were like the pic posted by BUZZ489. 

Don't see any fender bolts shown in that (reply #2) post. Just inner fender ones Might be a typo

If I recall correctly those are hardward bolts and what was sold as "reproduction" or replacements in the past

  I concur NAT makers mark was a prominent marking seen on hardware offered by Mustang vendors starting decades ago.

Sorry, I didn't post a fender bolt picture of the bolts like BUZZ489.  I will keep the "NAT" bolts off of my restored car.  I can't believe both of our early 69's had those type bolts.

Not much of a coincidence IMO if ether car was freshened up during its life because that was the off the shelf alternative Mustang vendors sold in the past.
