64 1/2 Brake Backing Plate Numbers

So where is the info coming from on what backing plate numbers go with what car?  Is this from observation of known cars or is there a reference that is being used?  I have backing plates from an early car with the following numbers:

LF 47707 Bendix
RF 47706 Bendix
LR 47832 KH
RR 47831 KH

The other internal  rear KH parts are:
LH parking brake lever KH 47853
RH parking brake lever KH 47852
LH/RH Parking brake link KH 47855


This is a low mileage car with what appear to be original brake cylinders with original factory paint marks on them.

Bendix and K/H were both suppliers at the time, it is not uncommon to see a mix, usually front to back and not side to side.

An interesting detail is that like you saw, the hardware should match the backing plate to be correct.  Also, I have found the rubber plug for the adjustment access holes to have the big numbers molded in for Bendix and smooth or a cross-hatch pattern for K/H.  Probably details very few have paid attention to.

Thank you for that Charles.  I thought it was interesting that all of the numbers were close, still not sure exactly what they mean.  They are not the basic part number or engineering number from the Ford manuals as far as I can tell.  I was wondering if they were some sort of sequential number, at least in part.

The actual numbers on the parts are an identification number, most likely required by Ford.

Just found 47648 stamped into the rim of the left rear brake drum.  Stamped, not molded. 8)
