Topic: Leaf Spring Date Codes

I was looking through some rear leafs that I have, and was wondering how to tell the date code.  Here are 3 examples:

C4ZA 5556 R
167 E5

C4ZA 5556 S
345 E5

C4ZA 5556 M
G1-6A

The G1-6A springs are slightly different and the code is stamped perpendicular to the leaf, not parallel as in the other 2.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The first 2 are the typical format.  The first number is the day of the year.  E is possibly a plant code or maybe a vendor?  '5' would be the production calendar year.

Don't recall seeing one like the 3rd you describe.

3rd one looks a little weird to me.  My guess is possibly a service replacement?

My July scheduled Dearborn coupe has numbers stamped like the 3rd one (C4ZA 5556-M G1-5D)  which I believe to be original to the car. It also had 2 white paint stripes (no paint dots) on each spring.

Here's a pic of the white stripes. Smallest leaf is missing because I used it on the new set as it had the original stampings.

I've got a set here in my shop too, with the GI-6E arrangement on them.

and I had a hand in parting out a 65 convertible (sched build date may 65) and it had a set of original rear springs with casting numbers;

C4ZA-5556-M
GI - 5C

which also had two white strips on the 2 leaf as per previous post.
