Sound deadener install
« on: November 25, 2015, 03:35:53 PM »
Hi guys,
Sorry for all the crazy posts recently. I'm on the downhill run of completing my car and I keep finding things that make me scratch my head...
So I'm ready to install my sound deadener and I read install info here and also watched a video from CJP to make sure I install it right. Both show to install the tar side down.
Well, I go to put it in and the cutouts are such that the tar side is up!  Has the material changed or did I purchase a kit for an Aussie car?

Thanks for the help!

Since its a reproduction there is nothing to suggest that it was patterned off of an original piece or something they just made up on a bench. Original product (for the early years) was typically paper on both sides as a finish surface the clear plastic over the tar on one side was a later feature on some - possibly due to changing suppliers.

For a period San Jose used a very thin - mostly just tar - product why typically a combination of jute center wither tar layer on each side followed by the mentioned paper later. An article on how to reproduce it your self can be found int he Library of this web site but since its not seen on the finished car most take the easy route
