Topic: steering box paint daubs? anybody have pic?

I've got it finished with the P/O and need some help with what to do on the paint daubs and marking from the plant.  Its power steering box and rag joint on a 351w GT from NJ Dec 19 1968.  Also, am I correct in thinking the top was blacked out.  any help will be greatly appreciated ...

Believe that part would only have paint markings from the supplier not from the plant. Don't know that I've seen enough 69 boxes from NJ to suggest (that was done at the auto plant) if any or all were blacked out on the top.

This is a 50K mile Metuchen car w/PS.  I would say they were blacked out.

Other than the bk out , do you have any idea on the correct paint duabs?

Well at least that one was Thanks for posting a nice clear picture. SO many of the examples are too rusty, possibly rattle canned and poor resolution to tell.

Did find at least a couple (to get us three) that do also appear to be blacked out.  Difficult IMHO to say all but at least (like many other years) we can say some and leave it up to the owner to choose at this point.

Would the steering boxes have been blacked out after installation or supplied to Ford already blackedout?  April 67 FB and July 67 Cpe - both Metuchen cars.

i believe after installation. no reason to do it at the box factory.

+1 .The instructions in the assembly manual indicate to paint what can be seen from above. That can only be accomplished if the box is in the car.  So if it was done it was something instructed to be done at the assemblyline plant.
