351C carb
« on: November 20, 2015, 04:20:58 AM »
I have a 1970 Mach1 with a 351C engine and the D0OF AC 4300 carburetor. Are these carburetors all Autolites or can they be Motorcraft? Is the round stamping on the top of the carburetor at date mark and if so how do you read it?

Motorcraft would not have come into regular usage until years laer

Post a picture of the round stamping (sorry not near my pictures to look at others) and we should be able to go from there

The attached picture shows the stamping (casting mark) that I am referring to. It is on the top to the left of the fuel inlet, opposite the accelerator pump. It looks like it is the size of a dime with marks around the outside and a v in the middle. This is not my carburetor. I found the picture online. I do not have the original carburetor but found someone selling one and I want to make sure I get the correct one. The base is stamped D0OF AC but I don't know what this other stamping (casting mark) is? Date code, casting information or nothing.

The stamping you refereed to is I think is a shift/time stamp but I could be wrong. I have a DOOF-AB carb and it has the same stamping. Like Jeff stated late 60s to early 71 they were Autolites then Motorcraft in mid 71.
Check these pics out.

Thanks for the info. I want to make sure I am buying the correct carburetor and not just the correct base.

Looks like the design includes an inverted "V" with a number inside the "V" as well as dots around the "clock" or "wheel" design.

We find similar date code designed on other case aluminum parts of the 60's that have been decoded by counting the "dots" and using each as representing a month. Count each and start at Jan to see what they "add" up to. OF course a different coding practice may have been used by late 70's as this carb may be from
