67 GT 500 Ignition Coil Location

I have seen many cars with the ignition coil positioned on the block.  A/C cars and Smog cars are all seen with the coil located on top of the intake manifold as there is no other possible location.   So my question is:  Did any of the non A/C or non Smog cars have the coil positioned on the block or were they all located on top of the intake manifold?

By far the vast majority of survivor type cars have had the coil mounted on the intake .I would not go so far as to say that "all" were located there but I can say with confidence seeing a large number of survivor type cars across a wide spectrum of build dates that the majority were installed on the intake . It must have been a matter of doing it one way for consistency between all scenarios because the intake location at first look doesn't make sense. The head location makes more logical sense with out knowing any of the back story. I would install your coil on the intake bolt location if it were my car.

+1  The typical- expected - normal location IMHO :)

Some of the other locations you see today maybe the result of viewing some  period magazine article pictures. Not like magazine cars were never altered   ::)
