70 Boss 302 - Third member retaining nuts colors
« on: April 21, 2016, 01:33:14 AM »
Does anyone know for certain the correct finish of the attaching nuts for the third member for a 9 inch rear in a 1970 Boss 302?
Thanks, Bill

Ford specifies S60 as the finish. S60 is Phosphate and Red. If you have the carrier out, you might consider ordering the AMK nut and washer set for the carrier. They come with enough hex lock nuts and copper washers to replace them all.
The kit number is: F785.  It's 12.00

+1 They will be looking for red dye nuts (believe you'll find them lighter than the dark phosphate under the red) and as mentioned do not forget the thin small washers or you'll have leaks ;)

To add. I believe the 68-70 nuts were zinc dichromate dipped in the red dye . The thin small washers are copper in material.
