Yup, another one. This car is 50 years old today, Oct 18. It was built on a Monday in San Jose (my hardtop shown in a previous Happy Birthday post was built on a Friday in San Jose, three days earlier, 1442 unit numbers apart) and sold to a Ford Aerospace worker under the "A" plan, 2 percent under dealer cost. I first saw the car in 1967 when I went to work at Ford Aerospace (back then it was Philco-Ford). Over the years I saw the car many times as Mike, the first owner, used it as a daily driver. He sold the car to Bob, who I briefly worked with, so I knew both previous owners. Then Bob called me and said it was for sale. I leaped at the opportunity.
This is a Fastback with the 289 High Performance Engine, GT, C4 Automatic, Deluxe Interior, Dual Red Line Tires, Style Steel Wheels, Wood Grain Steering Wheel and Beautiful AM Radio options. Over the years, the Rally Pac and Console were added. The Style Steel Wheels are factory originals, all five, and the original Dual Red Line tire is still mounted in the trunk.
Pictures include a professional portrait by photographer Ron Kimball, taken for a calendar but never used; the engine; driver's side interior to the front; driver's side interior to the rear (note the fire extinguisher) and the right hand side disassembled that started off as a "simple" replace the rear seat belt project. Note the primer used on the interior, the black interior panels mounting brackets and the lack of a drain tube from the rear vent drip tray. Details, details.
When I gave my grand nephew his first "1/4 mile ride", his only comments was - "Sweet". Works for me.
