Rear Valance Dimensions - Reverse Lights
« on: September 02, 2015, 12:36:44 PM »
Does anyone have a template or scanned dimensions (back up light kit) on adding holes for reverse lights on the rear valance?  Yes, I know you can buy one already cut out, but to buy that and then have it painted to match might be more expensive.  Plus this is for a Hertz car so, matching the stripes are going to be a challenge as it is.  Easier to probably just cut the holes…

I have an original Rear Valance with Backup Light Holes in storage. If time allows, I'll run over there today and get the measurements for you.

I'm in need of these too since I was able to pick up an NOS valance without the holes but my 66' has back up lights. If any kind soul would donate a tracing I would gladly pay postage. Otherwise i will be looking for a junked original at Carlisle this fall.

Resolved thru PM. From a sketch I made about 12 years ago.

Chris,

I found my original Valance and can make a tracing of each end if you like. It'll include the creases so that lining it up will be a snap. Let me know if you are still in need.

Thanks

I have an original Kit with the original instructions, but am away from home until the first week in October. It is possible that I may have scanned or copied them already, and have them with me on the computer. I'll check and get back.

How can one tell if a valance is original or a reproduction?  I don't recall seeing a date code stamped anywhere on it but I never fully looked for it on my own car...The taillight panel was replaced on my dad's since there was a Ford service parts decal still on it, so I assume the valance was as well but I don't know with what (reproduction or one off a 65 w/o back up lights)...

Should find a date code stamped above the license plate area on the mounting flange.

Chris/ Hipo Giddyup - Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the instructions with me. If you still need the info after October 4, send me a PM.

Remember that the date code stampings do not include the year so you often need to look further.

Some things to compare. '

Base primer color - and what do the holes )ones that hold the valance to the taillight panel) look like as a start

I always thought the date code + correctly stamped exhaust and backup light holes would indicate an original 66 valance.

Are there differences in mounting holes between 65 and 66 or differences in factory and repo which is typical.
