'69 Hood latch bracket bolts
« on: September 09, 2015, 09:59:31 PM »
I have been trying to verify which finish should be on the bolts holding the hood latch support bracket to the radiator support. The fastener list in the library shows the finish to be 2, but the finish guide shows S2 which is phosphate and oil. AMK catalog also shows S2 finish to be phosphate and oil but seems like all you see have a bright finish (cad or zinc?). I have read somewhere that 2 were bright finish and 2 were phosphate because they were installed at a different station and time (2 for the hood support bracket and the other 2 for the radiator support bracket. Anyone care to shed some light on this?

Thanks, TOB

Marcus did a very nice piece on the hood latch.  Your answer is at the bottom of that, hood latch, section.  Brian

That's great if your car was also built at Dearborn

Its not usual for different plants to use different bolts or even install them differently. Its very common that head markings be different from plant to plant and month to month - or at least often ;)

Jeff, sorry I should have been specific, Dearborn, 4/7/69 build date Shelby. Maybe someday I'll learn to add it in the 1st post. ;D
Thanks again TOB

As you have already identified there are four bolts that pass through the hood latch and work to keep the top edge attached to the unibody. On some cars only two of these are used since the radiator (inner two bolt holes)  is retained to the body at the sides of the radiator.  Since you have a Shelby it would have come originally with the top and bottom clamp style of radiator mounting.

For that car and time period the outer two bolts are like Marcus shows in his article - cad plated. BTW its also included in the library on this site - thanks to Marcus ;)
