68 Headlight Fender Ext. ?
« on: August 10, 2015, 07:28:04 PM »
Still sorting through some parts and have this seemingly correct 68 headlight fender ext.  It doesn't have enough holes in the bucket area.  Is the area in question supposed to a knock-out ?  The black headlight bucket needs another square hole.  Thanks,  Brian

Well obviously needs to be removed to allow for the head light.  Measure twice cut once.  Any comments.  Brian

Looks like a later service part, with that weird glossy primer. Likely the dies were all but worn out when it was produced.

Do you have an assembly line part to compare it to, or possibly the other side? That would be my suggestion, and make your modification accordingly.

My 2 cents.....

Thanks for taking a look and the comments.  I, of course, can make it work.   Just don't want to rush into anything that might be deemed ' rash or stupid ' later.  I have never seen a primer like this before either.  The part has a C8ZB number and appears to be OE.  I do have the LEFT side and another parts RIGHT side.  So... looks like a dremel would be the best choice for this surgery.  Brian

Have had the same issue with service replacement FoMoCo parts.  Did as you note and used a dremel to open the "door" to allow the inner bucket to fit.

It is a very common issue that I have encountered several times. It is much easier to fix if caught before paint and assembly.
