67 Dearborn Plant buck tag?
« on: October 06, 2011, 07:33:16 PM »
Pictured below is a tag I removed from the radiator support from a Dearborn built junkyard car.  It has the VIN plus a few other items:
1. 63B (it is a 2+2 with the interior decor option)
2. I (body is lime metallic color)
3. 419
4. 6A (it does have a black interior)
5. EXT (it does have exterior decor option)
6. RM (remote mirror? doors long gone)

I presume that the 419 is some sort of rotation number.

Also observe the the rear which is a (faded) door tag.  The holes, one of which was used to attach it to the radiator support near the pass side horn, line up with where the door tag would have been riveted if used for that purpose.  It was mounted with a single phillips body screw, one with the disproportionately large head.   The screw would not budge so the tag was ripped off.

Nice find - and yes sometimes it appears they used door tags (with the warranty part still attached) think I've got a couple in my buck tag box as well as some in pictures

According to the research Kevin Marti did and his work published in "The Mustang and Cougar Tagbook"

your right about the EXT but for 67 Dearborn (codes could differ between years and plants) the RM meant Rocker moldings

Did Dearborn tags not have the punched symbols I've seen on some NJ built 68 tags?

I'm sure that question was for an expert like Jeff and not me.  However, I can add a picture of a 1968 15k mile NJ car with two symbols, a star and a "fish".  The Dearborn one I have has no punched symbol, with the exception perhaps over the EXT text.   Some of that material is missing.

I'm interested in how the tag became body color way up front.  The back has absolutely no indication of overspray.  The front has some black and it looks like the black was roughly masked off when sprayed.

I'll take a closer look at the car next week, John

We see pressed into tag inspector (IMHO) stamps but not punch symbols

Another example of - different plant = different practices

Looking at other 67-68 Dearborn buck tags I have pictures of  are door tags  used for this purpose

Has anyone ever seen a tag like this?  It's punched with some numbers/letters like a buck tag. There is a tag on the DS and the PS cowl under the sealant.

Dearborn car.

Yep Seen them ;)
