Who makes an accurate repro console center woodgrain insert ?
« on: August 03, 2015, 07:28:44 PM »
Can someone please tell me where I can buy an *** accurately reproduced *** woodgrain console insert for a 1970 Mach 1? This car was built Dearborn, October 1969 and appears to have the walnut interior panels. When I looked around for these woodgrain console inserts, I saw ones called "Teak", "Light Teak", "Medium Walnut", "Dark Walnut". Photos so poor I couldn't tell what I was going to get and no time left for error.

Please, is there a good, cosmetically and mechanically correct repro woodgrain insert for a 1970 center console and where can I buy it?

Hi,
I recently restored my 69 Deluxe console insert along with the radio bezel and got the woodgrain appliques from "shelbycars"
The inserts were near identical to my originals(teakwood) but he has the walnut as well. He has a range of appliques and colours. I found him on ebay.

You can contact him at shelbycars@yahoo.com
Good luck
John

To be clear - I'm looking for the complete part, not just the applique. Specifically, the topmost plastic chromed part that has the applique stuck onto it.

I got my radio surround and console insert from shelbycarz also, I think, I will look through my receipts to be sure. both are perfect matches to my originals.

Thanks - I sent an email off to shelbycars@yahoo.com asking about them. I'd appreciate hearing back from you to if you locate the receipt.

Sorry got sidetracked with honey dos, I will look when I get home in the am. I paid like $80 for the radio surround, it has the little indents in the woodgrain aplique as the originals. I will get on it. Sorry for the delay

@specialed - I bought one from Paul Steinborn and it just arrived today. He's the one that makes them for NPD and Mustangs Unlimited. I'd sent him photos of my interior (all original door and dash clock/gauge woodgrain) and he thought his "Teak" was the closest match. His "Walnut" was like a coffee brown, nothing like I've seen in a 69 or 70 Mustang, but do recall Cougars using something like that.

Now that I've got his Teak one and can hold it against the other original panels, I can say it's "ok". The yellow and brown tones are there, but not the reddish tone of the original.

Oh well, that's going to have to be my best shot at it. No time left to keep hunting. Maybe the next owner can find a better match.

Thanks Ray, that looks like the dark Walnut one from Steinborn. Maybe the photo makes it look darker than it is in person.
