66 Deluxe interior?
« on: July 21, 2014, 07:31:31 PM »
As mentioned before I am pretty sure my car was a Pony. Reasons are (build sheet is missing as is the door tag)I can see where the dash was painted and it looks like grey primer or white paint in if you scratch it lightly. I can see some white over spray in areas under the dash, as well as blue. I do have a stack of receipts the previous owner gave me and he bought numerous cans of blue interior spray. Two theories I have, #1. the interior was so bad he replaced everything with the standard parts because they were either cheaper or he had access to them, and not Pony parts. He did actually enter car shows and probably wanted to cover the white so as not to show the change to std. #2. He told me he had to sell of the GT fogs and switch to pay for books (I met him at college) did he also sell off the Pony parts?
Another tell tale is the headliner and sun visors are white. Also now that I have stripped most of the interior out there are missing fasteners everywhere, seems that one screw can do the same work as two did at one time. I found a piece of white vinyl material under one of the rear seat panels as if it was torn off the rear fold down. Woodgrain on the console camera black on the glovebox and guages (also missing two screws). There is also a whire harness in the passenger door and I can see an outline of ehre there looks to be a patch where the courtesy light was, drivers door was replaced and I have a receipt from the PO. All in all Im thinkin it was a pony but because of cost the PO decided to go standard, but I cant be sure. What to do? I want to keep it factory original but I am torn on what was original.

Ok just to review so far - Detective time :)

1- you car does not have the original door tag

2-  IMHO you need to ignore all of the soft parts your currently looking at unless they are dated

3- Car's interior is currently standard blue  So any finding of other color would suggest that something has been played with (IE the rear seat vinyl attached still to the floor pan)

4- The passenger door is the original one (drivers door replaced) you believe. Does the stamping dates line up with the rest of the car?  Do both a pillars have holes for the courtesy lights?

5- Check the inner door surface for the screw holes for the deluxe arm rest L bracket

6- The GT lights does tend IMHO to suggest a mind set of the PO at a point in time

It just happens that I posted this one year ago to the day!
It took a while but a few weeks ago I located the PO and did get a few answers.
As for the original interior, he said he didn't change it out but did replace a few parts. He did offer that the first owner did mention redoing some of the interior.
When I questioned the wood grain console and the matt black instrument cluster and glove box, he all but admitted they were swapped out. He said the original cluster had bad gauges and he swapped out of a donor car he had. I think he didn't want to admit he cheated on the mileage when he sold it to me.
He did offer to look around and see if he could find the original build sheet or door tag.
