67 front suspension
« on: April 04, 2020, 10:17:56 PM »
Hi.
I’ve been searching for 1 hr on the right info regarding the correct finish and rivet amount of the upper control arms.
I have a 67 fastback sj 390gta and I’d like to know:
Are the control arms half black and half silver?
Are they 3 rivet or 4 rivet ball joints?
Are the spring perches all black or half silver and do they have grease nipples?
Is there reproduction parts out there that look just like the originals?
Pictures would be helpful as I’m pretty crap with this forum/search thing.
Cheers

Guess your asking about upper A/control arms?

If so not painted and 4 rivet

If lower three rivet and dipped about half way - often to or near the sway bar hole or around there.

Not sure where you would put zert fittings on a spring perch. Maybe you calling the complete (a arm and spring saddle) a spring saddle??? See answer above

Here is a thread on the spring saddles - Just used "67 spring saddle" or you could used an additional " perch"

Plenty of discussions stretching back years so some of the availability is different since posting on some items referred to..

Some examples using the "upper control arm" wording. That narrowed the search and reading down to 181 threads. All you then do is to scan through the findings focusing on "67 posts ;) just a few

Thanks for the reply Jeff.
So unpainted upper control with 4 rivet. ✅
No grease nipple(zerk) on spring saddle/perch. ✅
Are the saddles/perches all black or unpainted?
Also who does after market reproduction that are close to original in USA?
Very hard to find in Australia.
Cheers

Perches are natural steel.
No reproductions to my knowledge that match original ones.
This might explain the typical over $2K USD for restored original sets.

The zerk-style spring perches were, I believe, used on early Fairlanes and also show up on highly modified roller perches. Here is such a modified perch.

These perches are NOT correct.

There a number of concours pics on this site of just the perch. You REALLY need to get familiar with the search feature.

+1  Here is an easy way.  Using Google or other search engine, in the search box enter the following, including quotation marks:

"concoursmustang.com" "67" "perch"

The replies will contain all three items.

The third result is this link:

http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=20562.0

In this thread there is an embedded link to:

A lot of trails have already been blazed here.  Quite often you can do your own searching and get the answer right away - no need to wait for a reply :)

And to really narrow things down (this only works with Google) is:

site://concoursmustang.com 67 perch

The "site:" portions says "only search this web domain".

If you are picture oriented then select the google "image" tab.
