1967 Fastback GTA S Code Firewall question
« on: April 28, 2015, 03:11:06 PM »
I'm restoring a 1967 Fastback GTA S Code, San Jose and late December build date. I would like to put it in the concourse driven class. With that being said the replacement firewall differs from the original. As shown in the picture there is a reinforcement panel where the power booster bolts and steering column bolts up to. Would i be a point deduction or will it be fine leaving it.

Thanks
Travis

I say LEAVE IT IN. It may be that the metal wasn't as strong (thickness?) as the original but if it were mine and doing what you are doing, (that is replacement of the cowl) I would blend in the seam with body filler, primer and finish as with anything else. Stronger cannot be a problem, "Not as Concours" would more than likely be a deduction if noticed. OBVIOUSLY, the cowl has been replaced, that being said, it is already "not as delivered" and you are working (I assume) to blend in all of those welds and seams. I would NOT leave it "as is" though.

Sorry to see that your got a somewhat generic reproduction piece. Another reason to consider using donor cars/panels for a restoration.

Class makes no difference in your situation (trailer verses "driven")  if the judges check and find what will likely be described in the comment section (with a deduction) for the "68 replacement firewall"  since it has the longer/taller reinforcement
