Firewall Pad clip locations
« on: May 04, 2015, 04:45:48 PM »
I broke down and bought the cheap aftermarket firewall pad. I am going to strip off the rubber and undercoat to make it look as close to factory as possible. The pad came with four rubber clips to hold it in place. My car (built 4/2/69 dearborn) has two screws with washers on the far lest side to hold the pad instead of clips. My question is this. How many rubber clips were used originally and where were they located? I believe only two were used on this car. (I can't remember exactly where they were placed) I have circled the holes in the pad and the holes on the firewall where I believe they go. Just wanted a second opinion before I installed.

My car had the rubber retainers (C8ZZ-6501691-A) one used near the blower motor and one at the center of the firewall at the top.
Those are what fills those two holes on the firewall.
The driver side uses two screws with a washer.
The 1970 Osborn interior manual shows the pad installation on page 16

Your picture looks correct.

My client's car had the rubber plugs, too. The locations you outlined in blue are correct. The upper hole on our car has been enlarged and the plug won't fit. I think it's because our car is a '70 GT-500 with manual choke and it looks like they robbed the upper rubber plug hole to route the cable thru. Somebody please tell me if I'm wrong about that.

Here's the rubber retainer I removed from my car.
It's marked C8ZB-6501691-A-3
