Topic: Floor Pan sheet metal question

Hello All, Does anyone have any info on the two circled areas ?  I have only seen this once before and most '67's I've had do not have what seems like an extra piece of sheet metal overlayed onto the floor an in this area. I've only seen this once before and was wondering if it's indicative of a early/later production change or maybe a specific plant. Any info would be helpful and sorry if it's been a discussion prior, I just didn't know how to search it.

Those are the dual exhaust hanger reinforcement plates.

John,  Thanks for the reply but I'm not speaking about the small plates that hold the two bolts for the hangers.  I'm speaking about the two large plates that take up most of that area circled designated with a seam at the top and sides. It appears as a separate piece of sheet metal that is overlayed on the floor.

The Small rectangular plate is part of the dual exhaust bracket. The larger plate is a reinforcement plate for dual exhaust applications.  Without the reinforcement the base metal would probably oil can or tear.

I have several other 67's that don't have these plates and came factory with dual exhaust which is why I thought it might be a specific plant issue or running production change.

My 70 Boss 302 doesn't have them either, I heard they stopped using them in 70 but can't say for sure. If you have to replace the transition pan in that area the plates don't come with the reproduction pan and the original ones will not fit the replacement pan. I have been there and done that.

These reinforcements would have been factory and original for any 67 with factory dual exhaust

As to your comment that you having cars with factory duals and no braces I guess you have Marti reports for those vehicles and there has been no repairs or other things in the cars past (read all factory sheet metal) Not unusual (especially in years past) for repair personnel to skip, miss or forget to add these during repairs.

Guess you've checked the panel dates and rear frame rails to confirm other clues. Might be good start for another thread,

Every factory duel exhaust car that I have worked on has had the doubler. Not to say that there could have not been a error on the assembly line but the intent was for it to be there IMHO.

My mistake completely and I apologize.  I'm getting older and have too many of these cars and from time to time get a little turned around.  Upon further investigation, one of my 67's has had the pan replaced with what I would assume is a repop and the other did not come with factory dual exhaust.  Even as I take pictures and catalog everything, it's a bit unmanageable.  I will be selling some projects soon as I know I'll never get to them at my pace.  Thanks to all who commented.
