Brackets - Front Frame Rails for Sway Bar Clamps
« on: August 11, 2022, 12:55:26 AM »
Another running change item. Basic part number 5A483. This is the bracket for the sway bar clamps, it is welded to the front frame rails. I believe in the later part of the 1968 model year this part changed. The front edge is straight cut, and by June/July it began to have a curved cut on the front section. See comparison picture.

I have examples in my wrecking yard of both San Jose and Dearborn Cougars with miss-matched brackets, one of each. I would expect that the Mustangs also shared this trait? I don't have enough examples to draw a conclusion, but it looks like May for the Dearborn cars, and June for San Jose. This same bracket with the curved front edge was used late 1968-70. See examples of mixed brackets.
