Spark Plugs 4.6L V8
« on: March 29, 2015, 12:52:48 PM »
My 2008 GT is about halfway through its second set of spark plugs based on 90K miles service life.  The local Ford agency changed the first set, because I judged a DIY job was risky based on lots of bad press about broken plugs during removal.

So, the second set of plugs in the car now are also Motorcraft, dealer installed.

Are the service replacement Motorcraft plugs still prone to breakage during removal?  It's not to early to be thinking about replacing the plugs, including options of another brand of plug and/or early replacement at 50K to avoid stuck plugs at 90K.

No additional posts here, so I'll assume that there aren't many concerns about broken spark plugs!

With the separate discussions in the forum about saving original parts, I think I'll hang onto the factory installed plugs and wire boots.

I'm kind of fretting this myself..  My V6 4.0 is at 79,896 miles, - Almost 80,000 miles and I've never changed the plugs!

No Lie..

The car always ran well, so I didn't want to rock the boat..!

I'm nervous about changing them since I've heard stories about them breaking upon removal..

:o)

Refer to the attached TSB 08-7-6

I read that Champion makes a one piece plug for this application, but have never used them.

you won't have any problems with the 4.0 plugs. they are one piece originally. loosen them slightly then put some penetrating oil around the threads. i used anti-sieze on the threads upon installation. you may find something odd though. each bank of cyls had a different number on the plugs. have talked to several dealer mechanics & this seems normal for that engine.
