convertibe top pads
« on: January 30, 2015, 04:08:54 PM »
NPD used to sell a woven set for 65-66 and another for 67-68.  Out of stock for some time, unsure if the manufacturer stopped making them.

Lots of foam/fabric ones but nothing like the older NPD (which I am not sure were 100% correct but did compare well to some scraps I had off old frames that appeared original, but may not have been)

Recommendations for available replacements that are close to original style?   The Drake ones seem way off in the fabric is from the pics I've seen, and are a one-size-fits-all 65-68, which I do not believe is correct.

Have a friend with an upholstery shop here locally.  Last time I ordered a top from him, he got the thick pads like original, came in an Electron top box.  Might check directly with some of the top manufacturers.  I have a nice pair of original pads from a '65 that I use for reference.  The material was more tightly woven than the replacement pads that were supposed to be "correct".  Also, the original pads I have were not square end to end, they actually flared out at the rear.
