Believe the answer is normally it was based on where the car was assembled - different sub contractors (in the case Gabriel plants-  for different plants


San Jose would typically get MADE IN USA and Dearborn and NJ got the MADE IN CANADA. The type of tread and a couple of other construction details can vary between these two different supplying locations

Here are pics of rear shocks from my Dec SJ, GTA small block that I bought in 1980.  The style, coupled with date codes of November, and the other virgin aspects of the car, make these out to be original IMO.

I have the Jan 67 MPC and these part numbers (along with the rear spring part numbers and front spring colors) don't show up.  Can't figure that part out.

67gta289 - good example where the supply process was misdirected, a possible mistake made or some issue from the norm. Happened and its good that you can  document what your car came with - nice find. IF I may ask - fine or course threads?


Jim - as you well know shocks like batteries and exhaust are one of the most changed out items after all these years so original shocks are rare IMHO

The shocks are buried deep at the moment, but here are pics of the threads.  Appear to be fine thread.  I can get better detailed pictures with dimensions as well.
