AC Brush Mounting
« on: September 18, 2014, 11:26:23 PM »
Just want to be sure I put this on correctly, the AC brush will be up against the compressor followed by a flat washer and then a bolt with a star washer on it.  Or will the flat washer be in between the AC brush and the compressor?  Also the bolts I took off have a flag in the middle while the ones I got from AMK have no head marking.  Are the ones I took off original as the brush was replaced since there is no engineering number or Fomoco stamp on top?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I found a great picture of an AC system on a unrestored '65 Mustang that should answer all of your questions.

PS - An original set of brushes has the Ford part number stamped into it like in the picture I've attached.

Hmm that one doesn't have the flat washers, just the star washers....

I don't believe that I have flat washers either (just star washers).  I'll have to double check tomorrow.

Looked and found the use (very limited number of very close up pictures of this detail) of the flat washer on that mounting bolt on cars after 6R171xxx

A couple of close up picture. Agree that original brushes had engineering numbers visible on the top surface once part was mounted
