Interior Recommendation...?
« on: August 20, 2014, 02:49:43 PM »
There are sooo many different manufacturers of reproduction parts. Who is known for producing the best quality pieces (seat covers, headliners, dash pad etc...) for interior restoration? Is there any company out there that is more well known for high quality over all the rest? I'm looking to replace pretty much the entire interior. It was originally red (1970 Mach-1) and has been dyed/painted black. That also brings me to another question. How do I know exactly what was all red? Marti report verifies the interior was red, but was EVERYTHING red (carpet, door panels/door panel carpet, kick panels etc...)? I can't even find anyone who sells red door panels for the 1970 Mach-1's. Is there a good, safe product anyone recommends for trying to strip the parts that have been painted black? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Can't recommend a company to supply the seat covers since have not purchased any 70's recently. For carpet there is little choice, its pretty bad - best thing (according to may discussions) is get the mass back, check it when you get it to make sure that you got the right heel pads and that they put the carpet in the presses at the right angle.

As far as what gets painted - do you have a fold  down or non- fold down car?

Its likely easiest to post a couple of pictures if I can find a couple of red ones from unrestored cars.

Like all the others - dash and steering column will still stay dark charcoal metallic

Don't know if anyone is recovering Mach I door panels well currently - hopefully we'll get some reports from 70 owners on that detail

You lucked out - have some pictures

Unlike the 69 and some of the other colors it appears that the red interior didn't get a color matching dash pad in 70 on Mach i's and other red interior cars. Because the black carpet was used the kick panels are the same black as in all the other black interiors - lucky you

On this example the seats have been redone. Interesting heater delete export car

Welcome to the site!

I see that Jeff responded to the technical aspects of your request.  I've got a couple of housekeeping pointers:

1. Use the search tool to your advantage.  There is a virtual mine of information here, and the search is a good tool to use to dig out what you need.  But don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't find the answer or if the answer is not clear.

2. I use the "Show unread posts since last visit" link near the top of the web page.  This way I see what's new, and only what's new.  Very convenient.  I assume that a lot of others do the same.   When I did so this afternoon, I found three postings from you, all with the same request cut and pasted.  This is not a good practice for many reasons.  I would say to pick a single location to post the single issue.  We will see it and reply.

Thanks!
