1970 non-console 4speed boot replacement

My Hurst shifter boot is torn, need to replace.   How do I get it out?

The chrome trim ring is held in place by the boot, so just pull it off of the rubber boot. 
Then you should be able to access the four bolts at the corners of the rubber boot underneath the edges of the carpet.  Remove those four bolts and the boot should pop right out.
You'll also have to remove the shifter T-handle when you go to install the new boot.  The T-handle is held on by a hex nut, so use an allen key to loosen the set screw, then unscrew the T-handle from the shifter.

The new boots seem to tear easily, so when you go to install the new one be very careful sliding it down the shifter shaft.  You may want to use some sort of lubricant (oil or liquid soap) so that it slides down the shaft easier, to minimize risk of tearing.

The placement / layering of the boots vs carpet, etc should be (from top to bottom)

Trim Ring (top-most layer)
Carpet
Upper Shift Boot
Lower Shift Boot
Car floor / trans tunnel metal (bottom-most layer)
