Rear Axle Paper ID Tags
« on: July 01, 2014, 10:36:13 AM »
I am trying to locate either a retailer or a private party that reproduces the paper rear axle ID tag wrapped around the drivers side by the leaf spring mount in the 71-72 examples I have seen.  A search of the forum identified this thread for a 74 and I am not sure if these are the same or who Tom P. may be for assistance.

http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=2077.msg10499#msg10499

Any guidance on searching for this would be appreciated.  I need to produce one with a 951 B code.

Thank you,

Thank you all.  I have emailed Tom P. to inquire with him as well as emailed DeadNutsOn to see if they can reproduce a code 951 B tag.  I will reply beack with the outcomes.

No luck with Dead Nuts On.  His supplier has stopped making custom requests.  I am going to take a stab at making my own until another source is identified.  Would someone have a tag they could provide dimensions on in width and length?  It would also help to know the character height.  I am searching various font sets to try and get as close to the photo examples I have.

Good luck at figuring out things like what color paper would be correct for your application (Have seen at least 6 different colors) and the dot/dash pattern between the identification codes. For your application have seen white also used during 71-73

I started looking into doing these then stopped. Lack of solid original examples and documentation to insure that the product was correct

Good luck

An example taken from one of Mr. Perkins cars coordinated with another very nice example (unsure of originality) and both were in a light green paper.  The examples included above.  I am going to go with the light green while I continue to look for more examples.  The dot pattern apears random in nature as it may have been a feature of the printing process so I am going to explore how I can produce a similiar, but random pattern.

Believe that "pattern" we see on later tags was four blocks of 6x10 characters  with the printing process producing light and darker areas within the "pattern"

The "misalignment" of both letters/numbers correspond to that column are reflected in the "pattern"  equally from what I'm viewing

This can also be seen in the current reproductions

Not to mention if you find original examples it's still difficult to determine colors since time has taken it's toll.

The repros be a seem to heavy (high fiber) content paper.

When I tried to removed an original it was "thin, almost onion paper style and came off in flakes" (maybe it was dry, from heat)
