69 Convertible Carpet Toe Pad
« on: May 15, 2014, 04:41:12 PM »
I am attempting to confirm if the carpet in my 1969 S Code Convertible is correct with a heal and toe pad.

I am in the process of replacing the carpet and requested carpet with the heal and toe pad only to be advised that the 69 models did NOT come with the toe pad.

I have checked on CJ and other sites which sell the ACC system and they show a unit with the toe pad. In discussions with my supplier he indicates that while it is shown on the image it is not correct and actually cannot be bought with the toe pad unless ordered as a custom unit.

I wish to keep my car as original as possible and thus the research on the toe pad.

Please provide feedback on how to verify if the toe pad is correct to the 1969 Convertible models.

Thank you

No - 69 carpet never had tow pads originally attached to the carpet on any model. There are allot of old reproduction carpet sets out there with toe pads so don't let that fool you ( almost no one ever reproduced any carpet sets without the toe pads)

Have purchased a number of sets without the toe pads - that isn't a problem if you can clearly get them to understand what you want.  As for quality - there are plenty of threads related to that and the different levels of carpet available

Jeff, I agree no toe pad is typical however I've provided Bill Wirkus Two examples of unrestored cars with toe pad and one original 69 magazine article with nice pic of toe pad. We decided to not make rule change but make exception if car has the original carpet. Not sure if a vender issue ? or early production as both examples were Sept 69 Dearborn cars. Magazine car is Metuchen car.

Thanks Bob - and that is consistent with just about anything in judging as we've been teaching it at MCA. No reason to adjust of change the rules for something that might be a one time thing or a very small percentage (Less than .1% or so ) of total production.

As we've always suggested - if its out of the ordinary then do your research before hand, be prepared to discuss and have documentation/proof that your car came that way ;)
