HCC AX steering box tag
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:08:27 PM »
I've been looking for one of these for a while - and am still looking.  I need one dated between mid January and early March 1966.  If you have one you would be willing to sell, or if you know of anywhere I might find one, let me know.   Thanks, John.

You may also try Chockostang, they may be able to help and check eBay; I've seen the tags come up for sale from time-to-time.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies.  I check ebay regularly and have never seen an early '66 HCC AX tag listed, or any HCC AX tag for that matter.  I did check with Chockostang a while back.  They had a steering box with a tag that would work, and said they would sell the tag alone, but were asking what I thought was an unreasonable amount for it - not much different from the price of a complete re-built steering box.  I will check with Roger Rode.  Thanks for the lead.

it just depends how "desperate" a buyer is for something to be considered reasonably priced or not. Sometimes you have to buy the whole pig just to get the oink.

jim@shelbyparts.com also does steering boxes and custom tags.  However, expect to pay a premium just like at Chockostang.  I've talked to both.

I contacted Roger and it appears he may be able to fix me up.  I did ask Jim C about this last year and he said he was unable to help me out.

One on ebay now in your date range.  Feb 28, 1966.  Better jump on it if you still need...

$150 for a steering gear tag that is found on all 1966 GT Mustangs?  You've got to be kidding!

It's not my price, but regardless consider he wants one in first 3 months of 66, cutting to 25% of the year.  Next consider how hard it is to find an AX box or tag with exact date, then consider no one in their right mind is going to give up a tag off their box.  Also as far as I know no one is reproducing.

If someone has one cheaper or is reproducing let me know.  I'm looking for a Aug-Oct 64!

As far as everything I have seen nobody has reproduced the steering box tags.  Doesnt seem to b enough of a market for them.
