Topic: Need Help 70 Gas Tank Sending Unit

Other than an NOS unit does anyone know a source for a good 70 sending unit ? My Boss gas tank sending unit is a bit haywire and I have heard the repops aren't worth 2 cents of Mexican money.

Great ! Is the one offered in your link for 20 or 22 gal. ? I need a 22 gal.

The Ford MPC claims that this fits either the 49 State tank (22 gallon) or California tank (20 gallon).

*Note - this is not for low fuel warning. Was that even an option on 1970 Mustangs?

Just happened to have ordered and received one of WWC refurbished fuel sending units last week for my Cougar. I understand they clean and test each unit then include a float, gasket and screen for the price.

I'll probably order one fro WWC. But before I do I will check the float for pin holes. When I fill the tank the gauge only goes to a hair under 3/4s full. That may mean gasoline is partially filling the float and preventing the gauge from hitting the full mark. I know the gauge is working properly as I did the test lite check of the sending unit connector and it goes right to the full mark. I really don't understand what can go wrong with these units as they look very simple in design and function. But thanks guys for the lead on who sells checked out units. I'll report my findings soon.

My money is on the float being bad.  I had the exact same problem, and over time the guage would "fill" lower and lower.  When I finally got it pulled the float was half full of gas.  $10 float and a $1 gasket = back in business!

Most of the time its the float leaking at the hook sharpe curved end putting the most stress on the float at that point & starts leaking since that spot has the most pressure put on it with that design.
